Gateway Theatre of Shopping and The Barnyard Theatre again offer KwaZulu-Natal’s rising stars the opportunity to become a superstar when they host the third annual Gateway To Fame talent search competition.
Due to the huge success of the first two Gateway To Fame competitions, the contest is getting bigger and better this year, with the addition of the Break-Through category for school-leavers.
While the competition is primarily to find singing talent, the search will also cover dance. The three singing categories will be broken down into the following groups – Primary School (grades 1 to 7), High School (grades 8 to 12), and Break-Through (ages 18 to 23). The dance competition will be for dance crews of four to seven members (below the age of 23).
The auditions for the Primary and High School categories were held at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway on June 2.
The next round of auditions will take place on June 16 (appropriately Youth Day), for the Break-Through (09h30 to 12h30) and Dance Crew (13h30 to 15h00) categories. The registration process will take place between 09h00 and 10h00 for the early auditions, and 13h00 and 14h00 for the afternoon auditions on both days. Pre-registration is encouraged as it will make the process easier with a time-slot being allocated to each child. Entry forms available at Gateway’s information desk and at The Barnyard Theatre.
The next stage of the competition will again take place during the lengthy mid-year holidays. Seven finalists will be selected in each category, and they will participate in workshops from July 9 to 13.
The final show and judging will take place at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway on July 16, where the finalists will be styled by Stuttafords and groomed by Gerald Wells Hair Professionals. It will hosted by Jane Linley-Thomas, with last year’s singing competition winners Jarene Moses (Danville Park Girls’ High) and Kristina Burge (Chelsea Preparatory) making guest appearances. Tickets R60 pp for the final show are available through The Barnyard.
There will again be great prizes up for grabs including a cameo performance for the High School and Break-Through winners in The Barnyard production Icons of the 80’s in August. Gateway Music have again provided phenomenal prizes including a JTS lapel microphone valued at R2,995, a Washburn Acoustic Guitar Pack valued at R2,995, and an Orla keyboard valued at R7,495.
