NEO BURLESQUE

Break Thru Dance Company (BTDC), the Durban-based fusion dance troupe that wowed enthusiasts with the successful pioneering kaleidoscope concept of dance in Under Construction I and II and Dollz, continue to raise the bar by bringing groundbreaking performances to its fans and dance enthusiasts alike.

The new season performance, aptly named Neo Burlesque, is a take on Burlesque with a contemporary feel. Fusing the Hip Hop dance style, Contemporary and Burlesque, with live vocals Neo Burlesque touches on the conflicts of one’s “passion and love for the same dream”, “competition for the spotlight” and “the roller-coaster ride of love, life and careers”.

Conceptualized by Taryn Makaab, director and founder of BTDC, in collaboration with her creative team, Kai Pretorius ,Cobus Wiese and Hannah Katerere. This dynamic team with 20 company Members and eight graduate members have created another spectacular entertaining showpiece.

The strong 28 cast members of Neo Burlesque are drawn from a spectrum of dancers from different social backgrounds who continue to uphold the true patriotic story that inspired the nation to successfully host the 2010 World Cup and instil the much-needed pride to mould and propel South Africa into becoming a power player on the international platform.
