M-NET STARS

Good movies coming up on the M-Net Stars (Channel 105 on DStv) include:

July 22 at 19h30: Something’s Gotta Give (2003) directed by Nancy Meyers and starring Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves. A record company executive dating a woman thirty years his junior meets and falls in love with his girlfriend's mother.

July 23 at 19h30: Fandango (1985) directed by Kevin Reynolds and starring Kevin Costner, Judd Nelson and Sam Robards. Five college friends from the University of Texas circa 1971 embark on a final road trip odyssey across the Mexican border before facing up to uncertain futures, in Vietnam and otherwise.

July 24 at 19h30: Hamlet (2000) directed by Michael Almereyda and starring Ethan Hawke, Kyle MacLachlan and Diane Venora. The setting is New York City in the year 2000, providing an instant entree to a new generation of filmgoers. Hamlet is born of an alienation and angst not unfamiliar to young audiences. His plight is to avenge his father's murder.

July 26 at 19h30: Blow Dry (2001) directed by Paddy Breathnach and starring Alan Rickman, Natasha Richardson and Rachel Griffiths. Two beauty salons in the small English town of Keighley are locked in a heated rivalry over the National Hairdressing Championships. Local hairdresser Phil was once the golden boy of the competition until his wife and model Shelly left him and their son Brian to set up shop with her lover Sandra. Retired from the scene, Phil wants nothing to do with all the excitement surrounding the beautiful and stylish crowd that has flocked to the town. However, as the preparations for the big event begin to unfold, it becomes clear that the out-of-towners aren't playing by the rules, so rivals Phil, Shelly and Sandra must put aside their differences and team up to put their town back on the map and their family back on track.

July 31 at 19h30: Marvin’s Room (1996) directed by Jerry Zaks and starring Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio and Diane Keaton. Two sisters, Bessie and Lee, alienated from each other for 20 years, are forced into a reunion after it is found that Bessie is suffering from leukaemia and her survival depends on having a bone marrow transplant from a member of the family.
