SOUTH AFRICAN ROAD TRIP

As part of the France-South Africa Seasons 2012 & 2013, Alliance Française in Durban is currently hosting a book launch and exhibition by internationally celebrated French illustrator and artist Jacques de Loustal.

In South African Road Trip, de Loustal gives a pictorial and poetic account of his journey, during the winter of 2011, mainly throughout the Karoo but also on the picturesque coastal roads around Cape Town and through the Wild Coast.

“Two decades ago I was turned on to the work of Jacques de Loustal by none other than Art Spiegelman, who handed me a copy of Barney and the Blue Note,” says acclaimed cartoonist Zapiro. “I was blown away by Loustal’s mastery of atmosphere, milieu, and sense of place. Whether in monochrome or colour, whether in the form of comics or illustrations, his drawings are assured and beautifully composed. As a traveller, Loustal carries with him the ability to produce eye-catching drawings wherever he finds himself. A journey down South in 2011 resulted in Road Trip to South Africa.”

South African Road Trip runs until July 17 at Alliance Française de Durban and is on tour in South Africa until September 30 2012. The Alliance is situated at 22 Sutton Crescent (off Windermere Road) in Morningside. For more information contact 031 312 9582 or fax 031 312 2864 or email: durban@alliance.org.za
