FRENCH PIANO MUSIC

A rare opportunity awaits with an expert guided tour of part of the Tatham Art Gallery collection in Pietermaritzburg this morning (Sunday, August 5). Gallery director Brendan Bell gives insight into the current French Connections exhibition, combining for the first time artworks by French Masters from both the Durban Art Gallery and Tatham Art Gallery collections.

This walkabout is FREE to the public. Starting at 10h15, it is presented by the Friends of the Tatham Art Gallery (FOTAG).

This will be followed by Christopher Duigan’s concert performance at 11h45 of his current programme The Exotic World of French Piano Music: a selection from the 17th century French harpsichord composers and music by Claude Debussy (L'isle Joyeuse and Clair de lune), Maurice Ravel, Cecile Chaminade, Emmanuel Chabrier and Gymnopedie by Erik Satie. The piano recital is approximately 60 minutes. Tickets R50. Tea /coffee and scones will be on sale in the Coffee Shop as produce by FOTAG committee members from 11h00.

There is secure parking on the Church Street side of the Gallery which is opposite the Pietermaritzburg City Hall.
