INTIMATE ENCOUNTERS

In April 2012 the KZN Philharmonic introduced a new series titled Intimate Encounters. The series was well received and therefore the orchestra has decided to have two of these concerts in August. The concerts will take place on August 19 and 26.

Intimate Encounters give patrons the opportunity to experience music for a smaller orchestra in a relaxed, weekend atmosphere. This is another way that the orchestra is reaching out to new audiences and performing lighter music.

The concert programme on August 19 includes Glinka’s Jota Aragonesa, Maskowsky’s Sinfonietta and Naum Rousine’s Cello Concerto. The cello concerto performance is a very special one as it is composed by the KZN Philharmonic’s resident conductor Naum Rousine and will be performed by the orchestra’s principal cellist Boris Kerimov.

On August 26 the orchestra will perform John Cage’s Construction No.3, Mozart’s Symphony No.4 and Dvořák’s Czech’s Suite.

The concerts will commence at 18h00 at the Durban Jewish Centre. Tickets R60 at the door. Doors open at 17h00 and a cash bar and snacks are available before the concert and during interval. Audience members will also have the opportunity to mingle with the musicians during interval.
