(Futhi appears on August 3)
Top local artists to perform at Sundowners at the Playhouse on August 3 and 8.
The Playhouse Company will host two of their popular Sundowners events during the 16th annual South African Women’s Arts Festival.
The Friday instalment of Sundowners hosts iconic jazz musician and lecturer in jazz studies at UKZN, Susan Barry. A veteran keyboardist and composer, she has worked with some of South Africa’s great musicians, is a stalwart of the local music scene and fantastic performer. Also playing is Futhi, whose style combines Afro-Soul, jazz, roots and traditional music. Shophi Ngidi, lead singer of Afro-Maskanda style band Shophi Nesaphinda Futhi, completes the line-up.
Sundowners on August 8 sees performances by three more talented musicians. Fans of Afro-Jazz will be captivated by Angel Zondo’s smooth voice, as well as the legendary jazz vocalist Sheila Khumalo, who has been performing on local stages for over three decades. Rounding out the evening’s entertainment, Jazz and R&B vocalist Natalie Rungan will show why she continues to rise in popularity.
The Sundowners run from 17h00 to 19h00 in the Main Foyer. Admission is free, and a cash bar will be open, along with the Playhouse Coffee shop. For more information, contact the Playhouse Box Office on 031 369 9540 or 031 369 9596.
