SPOGWENI MUSIC FESTIVAL

(The late Lawrence Anthony –Elephant Whisperer. The festival is supported by his organisation)

This year’s Spogweni Music Festival, the second of its kind, has aroused interest with its excellent line up of top calibre and diverse performers, offering a truly family affair with its cross section of ages and musical preferences.

Apart from the strong programme, there is also the finals for the pre event Battle For Spog where new up-and-coming artists can win an array of prizes as well as a slot on stage at this year’s event the draw for the Royal Endfield Motorbike, food stalls and a few craft stalls and a safe environment for children to play under the trees, there will also be a short air display and demo by The Lawrence Anthony Earth Organization’s official Pilot Justin, of Ushaka Aviation.

The Festival is endorsed and supported by The Lawrence Anthony Earth Organization which is an independent, non-profit group which, according to its executive director Yvette Taylor, seeks to reverse the dwindling spiral of the plant and animal kingdoms and the environment through education and action. Taylor also says that Lawrence Anthony was an avid lover of music and often boasted that his sound system cost more than the car, so remembering Lawrence through our involvement in the Spogweni Music Festival is very apt.

One of the festival’s lucky visitors could win a flip and be part of the action in this helicopter as Justin gives a demonstration of their air tactics when spotting rhino poachers.

The music line-up includes Josie Field; Boulevard Blues; Albert Frost; Nibs van Der Spuy and Guy Buttery; The Sir Walrus Band; Krystle T; Alter Irving; The Jack Mantis Band; Toni Rowland; Azurdee; The Arrows; Soul Avenue; Tim Wells Blues Band; New Hysteria; DJ Martin McHale; Mais Que Nada; Steve Squire; Rise; Pan Latino; Spoonfeeders; Seagreen Blues; Ross Tapson (and the Remnants); F’N Ritz; Undivided Roots; The Meditators; Electric Arc; Car Boot Vendors; Basement Blues; Shomon; Brendon Shields; Inter-Alia and a few added surprises!
