A piece that explores one man’s passion for dance, life and discovery. (Review by Shika Budhoo)
A one-man dance piece, stepping through the journey of life. With immense skill as a dancer, Lenin Shabalala tells his tale of finding the light in a world ridden with confusion and corruption.
The Rebirth: From Darkness to Light appeared on the Fringe Programme at this year’s National Arts Festival 2012. As Shabalala dances through the six Acts, each appropriately titled, we see his discoveries come together through dance, poetry, music and audiovisuals, translating life as he knows it.
I was moved by the translation of lyrics and poetry into motion. Shabalala's talent as a dancer is evident as he engages with the dance and the audience communication with voice and body. I left the theatre thinking of the life I was born into, and the many rebirth opportunities past and those in the future awaiting me.
If you enjoy dance, you will enjoy this piece that explores one man’s passion for dance, life and discovery. For me, its main message is: We all have a purpose. It’s up to us to find it and follow it.
Good message and great dancing. - Shika Budhoo
