The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra’s Spring Season continues with works by a mutually supportive pair of musical giants. Conductor Arjan Tien returns to the podium on September 20 for a programme of works by Brahms and Dvořák.
The line-up includes Brahms’ Serenade No. 1 in D major, Op. 11 as well as two works by Dvořák - Slavonic Dance No. 1 in C major, Op. 46 and his Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104, B. 191. The soloist in the Cello Concerto will be Wolfgang Schmidt.
The concert will take place on September 20 at 19h30 at the Durban City Hall. The final rehearsals for World Symphony Series Season concerts are open to the public and provide a glimpse into the preparation for a symphony concert. Join the orchestra each Symphony Season on Thursdays at 10h00 in the Durban City Hall. Entrance R30 (R10 scholars) includes a cup of tea.
NB: There are no open rehearsals for operatic programmes.
The pre-concert talks have a new home in the recently-renovated Alhambra Room at the Playhouse (across the road from the City Hall). The entry fee remains R10 and starts at18h15. Ted Brien will be the lecturer this week.
