(Arjan Tien)
The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra’s Spring Season starts up on September 13 and once again presents a superb variety of international and South African soloists and conductors.
Most notably the KZNPO again hosts the National Youth Concerto festival, featuring the cream of South Africa’s young musicians performing with the KZN Philharmonic. Music lovers are urged to support these young stars and be part of history in the making.
The season opens with a burst of good cheer and a programme that features Shostakovich at his most ebullient and thoughtful, followed by one of Tchaikovsky’s greatest symphonic accomplishments.
The concert will be conducted by Arjan Tien and the programme includes Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Op. 96 and his Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op. 99 with Tai Murray as the soloist. The final work to be performed will be Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36.
The concert takes place on September 13 at 19h30 in the Durban City Hall. Booking is at Computicket. Subscriptions are still available from R470 for eight concerts - contact Nickey on 031 369 9404 or e-mail bookings@kznpo.co.za
