The Simunye Choir returned home to Kwa–Zulu Natal as the first runners up of the 8th Absa Internal Choir festival.
The winners were the Barclays Bank Zambia Choir with the Umndeni Wase Mpumalanga Choir named the most popular choir of the day voted for by the audience via SMS.
The finals of the eighth Absa Internal Choir festival took place recently at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre in Braamfontein. The theme was One Harmony Choir Festival so named because, for the first time, the bank’s choir competition had joined forces with Barclays Africa colleagues by introducing choirs from Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and Seychelles. This was the biggest production in the festival’s eight-year history.
This year, the bank’s choral competition featured over 500 employees who made up 17 choirs spanning all nine of South Africa's provinces in addition to the new Barclays Africa entrants.
