from Friday to Sunday:
October 19 at 20h00: The Sheltering Sky. British drama from 1990 with Debra Winger, John
Malkovich and Campbell Scott. The American artist couple Port and Kit Moresby
travels aimless through Africa, searching for new experiences that could give
new sense to their relationship. But the flight to distant regions leads both
only deeper into despair. Awarded with a Golden Globe Award.
October 20 at 20h00: The Last Emperor. Chinese drama from 1987 with John Lone, Joan Chen
and Peter O'Toole. The story about Pu Yi, the last Emperor of China. from his
lofty birth and brief reign in the Forbidden City, the object of worship by
half a billion people. Through his abdication, his decline and dissolute lifestyle,
his exploitation by the invading Japanese, and to his obscure existence as just
another peasant worker in the People's Republic. Winner of nine Oscars.
October 21 at 20h00: Besieged. British drama from 1998 with Thandie Newton, David
Thewlis and Claudio Santamaria. A tense, sensual film about a reclusive British
pianist's infatuation with his African exile housemaid. Shandurai has fled her
war-torn homeland for Rome, where she pays her way through medical school by
working as a housekeeper for Mr Kinsky. Shy and timid, he tries to woo her with
music, but her reaction is provocative and unexpected.
