The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at
the University of KwaZulu-Natal is proud to present the first gig of the 4th
term, The Didier Labbé Quartet featuring Tlale Makhene, on October 3.
The Didier Labbe Quartet was established
ten years ago, and has performed over 300 concerts in France and abroad. They
have four albums. This quartet will present works from Abdullah Ibrahim (who
inspired their fourth album),as well as original compositions by Didier Labbé.
The ensemble consists of Didier Labbé
(saxophones/flute), Grégory Daltin (accordion), Laurent Guitton (tuba) and Christian
"Ton-Ton" Salut (drums). Also part of the group is the much-sought
after SAMA Award winner, teacher, session musician Tlale Makhene (percussions) who
has toured Japan with Keiko. He also performed with Pharaoh Sanders, Corrine
Bailey (UK), Angelique Kidjo (Benin) and Jamalia (UK) during the 46664 concerts.
The concert takes place on October 3 at
18h00 at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), Shepstone Building Level
2 at UKZN (Howard College). Doors open at 17h30. Entry R35 (R20 pensioners and R10
