(Thabiso Radebe)
High
Heels with Balls, Thabiso Radebe’s emotionally-touching
one hander about tolerance, comes to the Catalina Theatre from October 25 for a
short season.
This honest, tender and original play about
homosexuality, tolerance, acceptance and human rights received great applause
in Durban when it was performed at the DUT Art Gallery and KZNSA Art Gallery.
Talented actor Thabiso Radebe plays a
young man, Asiphe. Through dance and poetry, we are told of his tender and
tragic story concerning violence, austerity and physical determination to
shatter the false reality that surrounds the ideas of homosexuality. We are
taken through his hopes and dreams as young gay man in South Africa and the
cultural challenges he faces every day.
Inspiring and entertaining, High Heels with Balls is an important
story to be telling at a time when being “other” often means being shunned,
violated and victimised. It reminds us of the need to find a commonality and
acceptance in navigating a way forward to overcome differences.
Created and directed by Thabiso Radebe, High Heels with Balls runs from October 25
to November 4 at 20h00 at Catalina Theatre, Wilson’s Wharf. Tickets R60 booked
through Catalina Box Office on 031 305 6889 or visit www.strictlytickets.com
