Rhumbelow Theatre presents Sam Marais Still Solo … (after all these
years)
The irrepressible Sam Marais has been part
of the Durban music scene for at least 40 years. He worked closely with the
legendary Geoffrey Sutherland in memorable productions at the Playhouse such as
The Queen Shows: Queen at the Opera and Queen as well as Sutherland’s
ground-breaking season of three major musicals: A Musical Trilogy - Sweeny Todd, Candide & Sweet Charity.
Added to these were Ain't Misbehavin’; Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Evita;
Godspell; A Handful of Rice - a Tribute to Tim Rice; Once upon this Island;
and A Chorus Line.
The impressive list also includes Pirates of Penzance; Barnum; Jesus Christ
Superstar; A Black Nativity; I Gotta be Me - Sammy Davis Junior; A Tribute to
Andrew Lloyd Webber; The Wiz; The Entertainer - Billy Joel and Jimbo.
The Rhumbelow presents a relaxing evening
of music and a good giggle with Sam and a piano and occasionally a “band in a
can!” as he puts it. Expect all-time favourites in interesting new ways! Jazz
standards (Mack the Knife, Mr. Bojangles,
My Romance, etc.), songs from the charts (Roxanne, Lagushoni 'Ilanga, etc.), as well as music from the movies
and musicals.... “A tossed salad with
many ingredients!” he quips.
