If you are in the Eshowe area, keep October
19 and 20 free for The Great British
Music Hall Show, which is being staged by the Invisible Theatre Company in
aid of Vukani Museum.
It’s been a long, long time since Eshowe
had the pleasure of seeing the members of the old Eshowe Dramatic Society on
the stage but there’s a treat in store. A group of them have re-constituted
themselves as the Invisible Theatre Company and have created this evening of
raucous laughter in the style of the naughty entertainments of the late 19th
century.
This cheeky romp features the talents of
well-known Zululand actors and singers in the music and melodramas of the
times. Patrons will be seated at tables where they can enjoy their drinks (cash
bar) and bar snacks, and even bring their own suppers, while hurrahing,
heckling, booing the villains and sighing over a pretty ankle.
This light-hearted look at the music and
melodrama of 100 years ago will re-create a boisterous era, when a glimpse of
ankle was shocking, and men took their mistresses to the music halls!
The
Great British Music Hall Show has performances on October
19 and 20 at 19h30 at the Eshowe High School. Tickets R60 booked through Elsabe
on 082 779 6756. Book your seat, book a whole table and bring your own food if
you wish. A cash bar is available.
