(The vibrant cast members of “In Blood”)
In Blood, a vibrant heart-warming Disability Theatre
musical drama production by African Sinakho Arts, has a short run at The
Playhouse from November 8. The production is presented in association with
Playhouse Company and is supported by National Department of Arts and Culture,
Department of Rural Development and KZN Office of the Premier.
Written
and directed by Bukelwa Cakata, conceptualised and co- produced by Ndileka
Santi, the production is a showcase for the wide-ranging talent and commitment
of a cast of 80 performers with various disabilities sharing the limelight with
able bodied dancers.
Celebrating
Disability Month and opening this year’s Festive Season, In Blood is a continuation of a national tour that was launched at
the State’s Theatre in November last year. In
Blood touched down at the Mpumalanga Mbombela Civic Theatre in April and
made a stop at the Eastern Cape PE Opera House in August this year.
“The
production seeks to entertain audiences with a unique blend of originally
composed vibrant songs, popular traditional wedding songs, drama, contemporary
dance, poetry and much more,” says writer and director Bukelwa Cakata. “In Blood is genuine musical theatre themed
around the central concept of human blood, the source of life and sustenance
that keeps us all functioning from day to day, that essential substance that is
common to us all. This serves as a unifying thread that underlines a very real
sense of commonality between the performers and their audience.”
In Blood will run in the Playhouse Drama from November
8 to 18. Tickets from R80 to R120 (R40 for group bookings). Booking is through
