Alongside the celebration of their new
corporate identity, UKZN’s Centre for HIV/AIDS Networking (HIVAN) - in
collaboration with the eThekwini Community Foundation - will also launch a
community initiative, the Ubunye Co-Operative “Hot Pots” range.
Ubunye Co-Operative, with its design
partner, Umcebo Design, has created a range of Ubunye Hot Pots. The Hot Pots
Collection is the culmination of a series of product development workshops.
These beaded plants are a delight, and from
just R50 make a marvellous Christmas or year-end gifts. With a huge variety to
choose from, each Hot Pot is unique and elegantly crafted by hand.
The proceeds are channelled back into the
community which has a direct effect on the wellbeing of all community members.
The Co-Operative is a cohesive and enterprising group made up of youth and
women of Mzimela Tribal Authority, a small rural community outside of Eshowe in
KwaZulu-Natal. This community initiative created dramatic and striking works
for an exhibition at the KZNSA Gallery, entitled Intellectual Property.
The Centre for HIV/AIDS Networking (HIVAN)
has a long history of working in the realm of HIV, AIDS and TB. Much has
changed in the health landscape of South Africa over the last 11 years. In line
with an ever-changing landscape, HIVAN has expanded its focus areas, wider
networking and capacity-building activities.
