The mother of books, Gcina Mhlophe, and the
children of Makaphutu are planning a School
Leavers’ Celebration to recognise the achievements of the 2012
matriculants of KwaNuyswa in The Valley of A Thousand Hills on December 8.
Makaphutu Children’s Village nurtures
orphaned and vulnerable children into wholeness. The School Leavers Celebration
aims to bring youth, community and society together to celebrate the 2012
matriculants of Makaphutu as well as selected student leaders from five of the
local high schools in KwaNuyswa.
A Story Telling Workshop will be hosted by the
inspirational Gcina Mhlophe – SA’s famous story-teller, poet, playwright and
ambassador. This event is endorsed by the GCINAMASIKO Arts and Heritage Trust
– promoting reading and inspiring young writers throughout South Africa.
This morning event will be open to the public, followed by a High Tea.
A
Ceremony for Our Future will be a prestigious event
with guest speakers, local entertainment and a three-course meal. In addition
to the celebration, willing young professionals will pair up with the
matriculants to offer mentorship. A total of 30 matriculants have already been
nominated by the principles of the local schools.
Sponsors, donors or supporters are invited
to assist the event in a variety of ways ranging from Financial Sponsorship to Specific
Donations as well as any other kind of support. Each sponsor will be given the
opportunity to put up branding at the public story telling event, and will be mentioned
in the Christmas Newsletter to be sent to all “Friends of Makaphutu”.
