The South African National Society (SANS),
Green Heart City and eThekwini Municipality will present their third annual Farewell to the Old Year get-together on
December 21.
The Boulevard Beret Accolades recognise
trailblazers (aged 21 or over) who have contributed towards advancing the arts,
heritage and ecology in the City of Durban and surrounds.
2012 Accolades will be conferred upon
Werner Dannewitz (posthumous, conductor of KZN Youth Wind Band) and five
trailblazers.
Founded in 1905, the South African National
Society (SANS) is the oldest heritage and conservation society in South Africa.
The society fosters the preservation of objects of historical interest and
natural beauty.
Green Felt Hearts Poetry Arts Experience is
a citizen-based organisation in association with Cycles 4 Social Justice (C4SJ)
and Ecology & Cycling that encourages arts and poetry experiences around
themes of ecology, sustainable living, fashion and cycling.
“One of the aims is to have everyone
wearing a green felt heart as we move forward from COP17,” say the organisers. “The
hearts will assist Durban in being affectionately known as Green Heart City.
The plan is to establish an international Green Heart Movement originating from
Durban. The organisation is registered with the World Poetry Movement. “
2012’s
Farewell to the Old Year will feature the Deaf Pavement Poets – nature
adventure poetry using sign language. There will also be a wind interlude so
those attending are invited to bring harmonicas, flutes, accordions and drums.
Farewell
to the Old Year will take place on December 21 from
12h00 to 14h00 on the Mayor’s open-air balcony of the Durban City Hall. Lunch
