Tea Cup presents a creative writing
workshop from well-known author and speaker, David Chislett at the DUT Drama
Department on December 8 from 11h00 to 16h00.
The workshop will cover areas such as
motivation, rhythm and method for the writing process as well as self-promotion
and marketing and dealing with literary agents and publishers. Chislett looks
at the various challenges facing South African writers (be they poets or
novelists) and offers a range of solutions and strategies to navigate the South
African landscape as well the challenges presented by the new arena of digital
publishing.
“This session is aimed at anyone who has
always had writing projects in mind but battled to bring them to completion,“
says Chislett. “It is also for anyone who has never quite figured out how to
start at all. It is not a course on how to write but rather how to give your
writing life and how to see your ideas through to completion.”
Chislett has six books to his name,
including the three Urban collections of short fiction, a solo collection of
short stories and a text books for the South African music industry. His most
recent book is his debut poetry anthology, For
You Or Someone Like You. He has also spent the last three years presenting
help to writers and musicians all over South Africa, sharing his perspective
and experiences from the business side of the creative industries. More
