New York based jazz sensation Sonny Pillay,
who hails from Durban and is known both for his own performances and
introducing the legendary Miriam Makeba to African Jazz, will return to the
city with a performance at Sibaya Casino in aid of Childline KZN on December
14.
He will perform with piano maestro Burton
Naidoo, Idols sensation Jess Yallup,
classical star Lauren Dasappa and songstress Debbie Marie in an event dubbed Sonny Plays Sibaya. Songs will include Old Man River, Some Enchanted Evening
and That Old Black Magic as well as
the extremely popular My Yiddish Shamama
which struck a note with the Jewish community during the 60’s.
Pillay performed three months ago at the
University of KZN Jazz Centre to a sell-out crowd and rave reviews. According
to event organiser, Yogan Naidoo: "Sonny and Burton have been hard at work
producing a world class show. They have put together an amazing ensemble.”
Event sponsor and Afrisun chairman Vivian
Reddy said Sibaya was proud to host an artist of the calibre of Pillay. “We are
also very pleased that he is supporting a very worthy charity in Childline
KZN."
This event begins with cocktails. A
presentation from Childline KZN director, Linda Naidoo, will be interspersed
with the music and supper will be served. After the curtain call at 22h00,
guests can take to the dance floor.
Tickets are available at Computicket and
will include cocktails, a meal and dancing. For more information contact Robbie
Naidoo on 084 444 5500.
