HAVE A LAUGH, SAVE A LIFE

(Carvin Goldstone)

Have a Laugh, Save a Life at the Bat Centre this Friday (February 22) will boast Durban's biggest ever comedy bill as entertainers from across the city chip in to help raise money for a much-needed transplant for nine-year-old cancer patient, Rose Leigh Usher, from Wentworth.

Rose-Leigh has a rare aggressive cancer and has been in hospital since mid-2012 while a search for a donor match has been ongoing. The good news is they've found a donor match ... overseas! The match has been reserved for her but only for one week more from February 18. She needs to raise R300,000 to cover a shortfall for the transplant which is set to take place at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town

There are 11 local comedians on the bill including Carvin Goldstone, Dusty Rich, Neil Green, Jem Atkins, Glen Bo, Liam Johns, Lil Paul and more …!

EThekwini Speaker and former Deputy Mayor, Logie Naidoo has also asked if he can do a comedy set to help towards raising money for Rose-Leigh. He proved his comedy skills when he appeared in the Charous and Bruinos Comedy Show in 2010. His set subsequently also became a hit on YouTube.

Rose-Leigh's family is currently exhausting all efforts to raise the money - from smaller community appeals and fundraisers to the bigger requests to businesses for help. Oxford Freshmarket has presented a challenge to KZN businesses. "Because of the urgency of the matter, Oxford have donated R10,000 towards the total funds needed and we are challenging 29 other businesses to match this. If 30 businesses in total donate the amount, Rose-Leigh could secure her donor and a chance at life," said Oxford co-partner Paul Beltramo.

Have a Laugh, Save a Life takes place on February 22 at 20h00. Tickets R100 available at the door or through Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers. All funds raised will go towards securing Rose-Leigh's donor. For more information contact Carvin on 082 88 444 50
