The Centre for Jazz and Popular will present “An Evening with Lu Dlamini and Steve Newman” on February 20.
Lu Dlamini is a talented and unique singer
who comes from a deeply musical family. She was exposed to and played with her
brothers - Sphelele, Njeza and Sazi - who sang and played guitars as well as various
indigenous instruments.
Lu Dlamini has worked as a backing vocalist
and/or session musician for artists like Jonas Gwangwa, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse,
Sankomota, Mango Groove and Brenda Fassie. She has toured extensively both
locally and internationally with some of these artists.
Well-loved guitarist Steve Newman is mostly
known for his work in bands like Tananas, Aquarian Quartet and Mondetta. He is one of South Africa's most expressive acoustic guitarists with his fresh
percussive beats, matching bass lines and catchy melodies.
Steve Newman has also recorded with artists
such as Syd Kitchen, Greg Georgiades, Tony Cox, Wendy Oldfield and more
recently with Errol Dyers, Hilton Schilder and Jikanelanga of which Lu Dlamini is
also a part. Steve has toured all
around the world.
“An Evening with Lu Dlamini & Steve Newman” takes place at the Centre for
Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard
College Campus on February 13 at 18h00. Entry R35 (R20 pensioners/R10students).
