Due to perform for Friends of Music on
March 5 will be Czech-born pianist, Lukáš Vondráček, who displayed an astonishing
talent from the age of two and has been described as the most exceptional young
artist in Europe. He won the 12th Unisa Piano Competition in Pretoria and received the Raymond E Buck Jury Discretionary Award at the 2009 International
Van Cliburn Piano Competition. His first commercial recording, a solo album
for Octavia records featuring works by Mendelssohn, Liszt, Janáček and Dohnányi,
was released in 2004.
His programme will include Brahms piano
pieces Op 118; Scriabin’s Piano Sonata No 4 Op 30; Rachmaninov’s Variations on a Theme of Corelli Op42
and Chopin’s 2 Nocturnes and Martinu-Three Czech Dances.
The Prelude Performer for the evening will
be violinist Kiara Moodley who won first prize at the Eisteddfod. For her Royal
School Exam she passed with distinction and was placed first in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Her accompanist is Violeta Osorhean.
The concert takes place at 19h45 at the Durban
Jewish Centre, 44 Old Fort Road (KE Masinga Road). Tickets R70 (R60 FOM members/R20
