ROCKING IN A FREE WORLD

(Percy Smith, Samantha Tirivacho, Bronwyn Evans, Petro Liebenberg and Lee Paver)

The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway is once again preparing for take-off with their latest show, Rocking In A Free World, which is staged at the venue from March 5.

Following the success of Rocking All Over The World, this show brings audiences a hot new line-up of songs and cast members, but once again takes audiences on a wild trip to 12 musical destinations with the crazy Barnyard air hostess leading the way. Featuring the rock stars, singing sensations and music from England, America, Sweden, Brazil, Greece, Spain, Jamaica, Australia, Italy, Wales, France and the good old RSA,  Rocking In A Free World once more sets up a party like no other!

Buckle up and get ready for take-off as the musical journey starts in Sweden with the pop sounds of Roxette and then continues to Wales who produced Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey. The diversity of Rocking In The Free World is what this show is all about, as a passionate tribute is paid to France’s greatest singing sensation Edith Piaf.

The sounds of Spain are celebrated with a blazing tribute to the Gipsy Kings and a good old clap-along to the Greece national party anthem, Zorba The Greek. There’s a jolly encounter with Her Majesty the Queen of England who introduces a multitude of English pop icons such as Amy Winehouse, Adele, Joan Armatrading, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and, of course, rock royalty Freddie Mercury who also decided to call his band Queen!

The second half moves into the sexy Latino sound with Shakira and Santana, before cooling off on the island of Jamaica with the sounds of Bob Marley. Then comes Thunderstruck by the rockers from Australia, ACDC and the smooth sultry sounds of Italy with the classic Il Mondo. The USA is the birth place of rock and roll, and the journey crisscrosses the States from Los Angles to New York with outrageous icons like Lady Gagga, James Brown, Meatloaf and Tina Turner. Then it is touchdown back home in South Africa to celebrate music legends such as Brenda Fassie, Sipho Hotstix and Mango Groove bringing this rocking musical journey to a rocking climax!

Leading this whirlwind tour will be Barnyard Air hostess Bronwyn Evans. The stellar cast consists of Percy Smith, Lee Paver, Petro Liebenberg and Samantha Tirivacho on lead vocals; with the band made up of Calli Thomson on keyboards, Regardt De Bruin on guitar, Fresh Monanyane on bass guitar, Chad Harbott on drums and Joseph Shumane on saxophone.
