SABC3 is to present the South African
premiere of a new drama series, The
Client List, starring Jennifer Love Hewitt as a single mother who goes to
work as a massage therapist to make ends meet.
Hewitt (The
Ghost Whisperer, Heartbreakers, I Know What You Did Last Summer) heads up a
star-studded cast that also features three-time Golden Globe Award®-winning
actress Cybill Shepherd, best known for her roles in Moonlighting and Cybill
as well Emmy -winning Loretta Devine of Waiting
to Exhale and Greys Anatomy.
In The
Client List, based on the 2010 film of the same name that earned Hewitt a
Golden Globe nomination, she stars as Riley Parks, a Texas housewife who has
been abandoned by her husband and left in serious financial straits. To
survive, she takes a job at The Rub, a seemingly ordinary day spa in a neighbouring
town only to find out that some of her co-workers are offering their male
clients a little something extra to make cash on the side.
Riley is faced with a moral dilemma: join
in and start offering value-added services that aren’t on the official spa
menu, or continue struggling to put food on the table for her two children.
The series pivots around this ethical
tug-of-war as Riley embarks on a double life teeming with secrets: she must
balance being a respectable single mom in a conservative community with being a
savvy, ambitious businesswoman working in a frowned-upon enterprise with a
bunch of raucous women. She soon learns that money talks, pleasure sells and
discretion is everything.
Shepherd stars as Riley’s
five-times-married mother, Linette Montgomery, who works at a hair salon, while
Loretta Devine features as Georgia Cummings, the owner of the massage parlour.
The first season of The Client List, comprising 10 episodes, starts airing on March 5 at
21h00 on SABC3.
