Friends of the Tatham Art Gallery in
association with Music Revival present the internationally acclaimed The HA! Man Show for one performance
only this evening (February 20) at the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg.
South Africa’s HA!Man (Francois le Roux) is
a highly regarded multi-artistic cellist, who has independently woven waves of
spontaneity around the globe since 1992, doing “HA!” performances and workshops
in Spontaneous Creativity.
Improvising on the piano since age four, as
a church organist at age 10 and since his twenties (uniquely) as a full time profession,
he is noted for the way he combines his classical music training with a range
of musical influences, to constantly find new ways of expressing true feeling
through music. During the ‘90’s, he spent years playing on the streets of South
Africa before expanding onto a global performance routine that connects his
work to a dizzying array of people, places and performance venues - an
inspirational troubadour for the 21st century!
Joining in 2013 as full-time guest
performer is Joke Debaere, actress, performance poet and singer from Belgium,
flowing in the same spontaneous vein, already eliciting strong responses from
audiences.
“Audience members are often left
speechless, overcome with deep feeling and unable to describe the HA!
experience in regular terms,” says the publicity material. “The combination of
a world class instrumentalist (cello and piano) with an encyclopaedic musical
language (including classical, African, jazz and oriental influences), the
spirituality and unpredictability of momentary creation (all instrumental
playing is improvised) and masterful sonic textures (computerized
accompaniments) is broadly regarded as one of a kind. Yet the HA! character is
at once simple and natural enough to fully engage young kids and musically lay
people. In short, for both performer and audience, HA! is a feeling to be felt,
a dare to be present and a breathing from the heart.” More information at www.hamanworld.com
