Series 2 of The Omid Djalili Show will kick off on February 26 at 22h00 on the
BBC Entertainment (channel 120 on DStv).
Having introduced himself to a large
television audience, Omid Djalili – the man referred to by one critic as “one
of the most subversive, let alone funniest, comedians around” – is broadening
his stand up persona as a comedic voice of modern, mainstream Britain.
With brand new material from his 2008 tour,
and an expanded sketch-writing team, this series sees him covering diverse
themes such as the complexities of being British, casual racism in football and
Iranian social etiquette, all with his tongue placed firmly in his cheek, of
course.
New characters include Marty, a vicious,
camp Sound of Music tour guide who
tests his customers on what he’s been saying, (if they don’t know the answers,
he throws them in the boot of his coach) and a jive-talking Henry VIII
struggling with his love life.
Naturally, there’s also bellydancing and
more musical numbers with some high-impact moving and shaking in hilarious
skits such as Minicab - The Musical
and the story of the credit crunch as a rock opera.
