(Barry
Thomson)
On April 18, The Heritage Theatre in
Hillcrest celebrates its eighth birthday.
Fittingly A Taste of Thomson, the hit show by guitar maestro Barry Thomson,
is booked in for its fifth season featuring one of Durban’s best loved
musicians who has been so instrumental in the venue’s success. Thomson takes
centre stage in a salute to artists who have had a direct influence on his
life, musically and personally.
In A
Taste of Thomson, Barry Thomson once again teams with musical director Dawn
Selby (keyboards, Hammond organ and vocals), Mali Sewell (drums) and Jason
Andrew (bass guitar), the band collectively known as “The Reals”, to showcase
the music of a wide range of unforgettable artists.
Thomson’s musical menu includes Pink Floyd,
Stevie Ray Vaughn, Led Zeppelin, Gary Moore, Dire Straits, Jethro Tull, Deep
Purple and Jimi Hendrix. The show also features an acoustic segment, with some
of Barry’s original songs including Walk
a mile.
“It’s not just about me, but tackling the
music as a band – only four of us! Pushing ourselves to our musical limits,”
says Thomson.
