Coming up at the Artisan Gallery in
Morningside is Interconnections, an
exhibition of exciting and diverse works by three members of the well-known Duarte
family of artists: Izidro Duarte; his son, Everett Duarte, and daughter-in-law Frances
Schandera-Duarte.
Izidro Duarte has been a career artist
since 1970, and his love for Africa has dominated his subject matter. He is constantly
exploring fresh methods of expression-both his two and three dimensional works
are a reflection of this.
Everett
Duarte is a contemporary South African artist whose abstract paintings
celebrate colour, life and spirit in an organic way. The visual language he
creates on the canvas is both powerful and engaging. With each piece, he
intertwines a story about the natural course of existence.
Frances
Schandera- Duarte, Everett’s German born wife, includes a large palette of
eclectic art materials in her paintings. She layers oil paint with ink,
incorporates gauze, mineral sands and various papers to create compelling works
which allow many different interpretations of the final piece.
The works include large figurative
watercolours and large sculptures by Izidro Duarte, powerful and engagingly
organic abstracts by Everett Duarte and dream-like multi-layered mixed media
works by Frances Schandera-Duarte.
Interconnections opens on March 27 at 18h00 and runs until April 13 at Artisan
Gallery, 344 Florida Road, Morningside in Durban. The gallery will be closed on
Good Friday and Easter Monday. More information from Ingrid Lotter-Smith on 031
