The School of Arts: Music at the
University of KwaZulu-Natal presents Karthiegasen Pillay in the next free
lunch-hour concert on March 11.
Karthiegasen Pillay is the leading artist
in the field of Carnatic Music (South Indian Classical Music) in South Africa.
He has been performing music for 40 years and today, he is the only South
African musician to have occupied the top slot in the Chennai Music Festival.
Pillay belongs to a family of music connoisseurs.
From a very early age he was exposed to the classical arts, especially carnatic
classical music - his first concert was at the tender age of two! Since then
there has been no looking back. He has travelled widely in South Africa, India
and abroad and won applause from connoisseurs and critics. He has been on tours
to Mauritius, Malaysia, Africa and India on numerous occasions. He has received
numerous awards and titles.
The concert takes place on March 11 from 12h15
to 13h00 in Howard College Theatre. Entrance to Monday lunch-hour concerts is
