KZN Music House has launched four new
albums, which mark the culmination of its Vezikhono (Talent Search) programme, launched in 2009. The albums released in
retail outlets this week fall under the categories of Gospel, R & B, Hip
Hop and Maskandi.
“Over the past three years we have been
involved in our Vezikhono talent search,” says KZN Music House CEO, Thandekile
Mqadi. “This programme was established to unleash raw talent among KZN music
artists, and has involved extensive workshops and auditions.
“The KZN Department of Economic Development
and Tourism (DEDT) have created an enabling environment for about 76 artists
that have successfully recorded at KZN Music House over this period,” she
continues. “Of these, some 46 artists have been discovered through the
Vezikhono talent search programme. The programme was carried out following a
plea from our provincial and local government to help stem the exodus of most
KZN artists migrating to other provinces to seek greener pastures.”
Mqadi indicated that the KZN music industry
was growing at an unprecedented rate: “A high calibre of talented young
musicians from KZN has taken the music industry by the storm,” she adds. “A
notable example is Mbuso Khoza from Eshowe, who recently won the 2013 Metro
Award for the best Contemporary Jazz category on his first album release. Mbuso
Khoza recorded his first album titled Zilindile
at KZN Music House. Such formidable strides ignite a veritable spiral to
continue to invest in the creative industry and the development of artists.”
New-found artists appearing on KZN Music
House’s Vezikhona Gospel album include Njubulo Mkhize, Born Again, Boys in
Action, Sbelo Sithole, Joy Singers and Nkosinathi Mdletshe. The company’s hot
property new Hip Hop album features numbers by MC Cool, Enhle, Mkonto,
Alkozholiks, MID, LUS, Norti-Bori Kru, Lammeek and Bazooka.
Common Ground is the freshly discovered
group featured on the new Vezikhona R & B disc, entitled Rooted. Also set to make waves is KZN
Music House’s Vezikhona Maskandi disc. This spotlights high energy performances
by Oqedukukeka from Pietermaritzburg, Cupha noXolo from Pinetown, Thulasibone
from Bergville, AmaJili from Ezakheni, Impunyela from Port Shepstone and
Abafana Bemvuselelo from Hluhluwe.
