Bongani Nkwanyana Band in concert with guest vocalist
Xoliswa Dlamini will offer a highlight of April entertainment at the Rainbow
Restaurant in Pinetown on April 7.
Bongani Nkwanyana was second bassist for Sipho Gumede,
shadowing the legendary bassist at all his gigs on the Rainbow stage through
the late 1990's to Gumede's untimely passing in 2004.
After a long period of mourning for the master, the student
returned with the album Ithemba Lami
in 2009. A fitting homage to Gumede, this album has become one of the most
requested at the Rainbow.
Also featured on the album is vocalist Xoliswa Dlamini who
last performed on the Rainbow stage as lead vocalist in the tribute band that was
put together for Rainbow’s 30th birthday celebrations in 2011.
“These are the stars of a fantastic ten-piece band that are
sure to rock your socks off,” says Rainbow’s co-owner, Neil Comfort. “Expect
some classic Gumede tracks, plenty of tunes from Ithemba Lami and a few new numbers that Nkwanyana has been working
on for his next album.”
The concert takes place on April 7, doors open at 13h00.
