The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway is reliving the Glory
Days of the 80’s.
It is fitting that Glory Days is this popular
mall venue’s 80th production (staged since 2001), as it is a musical
journey through the decade of the 80’s that promises to have audiences crying
with laughter, featuring songs that tug at the heart strings, and showcasing
music that will bring back a flood of memories. The 80’s produced the catchiest
pop songs and the most outrageous fashion statements, thereby creating the
biggest party in the history of mankind. The evening is centred on a hilarious
computer nerd called Wally, who wants to become a rock star just like his hero,
Bruce Springsteen.
Wally takes audiences on his musical journey where he
transforms into a singing geek with hits from Richard Marx, Rick Astley and Boy
George. He is also joined by the smooth Lionel Ritchie, who takes us Dancing
on the Ceiling, while the divas Gloria Gaynor, Shirley Bassey and Tina
Turner are Simply The Best. The iconic Stevie Wonder, who is a Part
Time Lover and Just Called To Say I Love You, is also featured along
with Sir Elton John in We Are The World.
Wally captures hearts when he transforms into a
leather-clad rocker singing Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life. The Glory Days continue
with songs from Eddy Grant, Bob Marley, Robert Palmer, Bryan Adams and UB40, as
well a rocking tribute to Gary Moore’s Still Got The Blues.
Glory
Days is scripted
by the Ian von Memerty and Tian Rautenbach
plays Wally. Handling the vocals along with Tian
are Ramaine Barreiro Lloyd and Marvin Nethonondo,
while the Barnyard band is made up of Calli Thomson (keyboards), Andy Murray
(guitar), Mark Freel (bass guitar), Alan Lloyd (drums) and Kirsty Madgin
(saxophone).
Glory Days runs until May
26. Tickets R140 pp from Wednesday to Saturday (R105 pp every Tuesday night and
