Gcugcwa
Productions, in association with Stable Theatre, proudly presents musical
extracts from the high-energy stage show, Long
Journey - The Musical, at Durban’s Stable Theatre from April 5 to 7.
Written and
directed by Zeph Nzama, the show boasts a big-league cast of performers that
includes in its talent line-up, performers such as Buhle Ntuli (African Footprint), Mhlonishwa Dlamini (Show Boat), Mandla Manzi (Maria Maria) and Thabani Mahlobo (Happiness Through the Mist). Mahlobo also
appeared in Stable Theatre’s iNkanyezi –
the Star and was one of the two first performers of Stable Theatre’s Rhythm Dudes.
Other powerhouse
artists appearing in the production include Bongani Mchunu, Sifiso Cele,
Cyprian Nzama, and Siyabonga Zuma.
“Our production is
uplifting and powerful,” says Nzama. “In writing and putting together Long Journey-The Musical, my aim has
been to take our audiences along with our talented cast, on a wave of great
song and dance entertainment, that carries a message of optimism and hope for
the future.”
While it depicts
men who have left their homes and are resourcefully facing the challenges of
hard times experienced while working on the mines, Long Journey-The Musical spells out Show Biz with a capital ‘S’.
Its emphasis is well and truly on staying on the positive side of life.
The show embraces a
dazzling mix of contemporary, taptsula and gumboot dance genres, showcasing the
skills of its exceptionally gifted cast through a succession of comedy and
drama sketches, liberally laced with big-time musical theatre routines, each
packed with heaps of pizazz and large dollops of the wow factor.
Providing live
musical backing are Musical Director Mthobisi Mthalane and Tumelo Komako (keyboards),
Mbuso Sokhela (bass) and Vusi Mkhize (guitar), among fine musos.
Following its
Durban season, the show will be staged at the National Arts Festival in
Grahamstown from June 27 to 30.
Long Journey-The Musical has performances on April 5 and 6 at 18h00 and
