would you opt for brains or beauty? This premise is explored to hilarious
effect in the new comedy-drama series Drop
Dead Diva, which centres on a vapid wannabe model returning to earth in the
body of a plus-size lawyer.
Self-centred bimbo Deb (Brooke D’Orsay) has
a fatal car accident and finds herself pleading her case in front of heaven’s
gatekeeper. She manages to wangle a return to earth, but in the body of a
recently deceased attorney, Jane (Brooke Elliott), who died protecting her
boss.
Jane is the complete opposite of Deb:
brilliant, hard-working, generous… and overweight. She has always lived in the
shadow of her more attractive colleagues, whereas Deb’s existence has always
been based on her external appearance. Now, in her new body, Deb has to learn
importance lessons about personal acceptance and inner beauty – with plenty of
laughs on the side!
