Currently
running in Pietermaritzburg’s Tatham Art Gallery in the Schreiner Gallery is
the FOTAG Pixhibition: Six Day Photo
Challenge.
This
selling exhibition is part of a fundraising drive by the Friends of the Tatham
Art Gallery. They invited the public to donate six images, mounted on 12 x12 cm
blocks, taken on cellphones around the following themes:
Monday -
Blue
Tuesday
- Best Part Of Your Day
Wednesday
- Nearly Three
Thursday
- 9 o’clock
Friday -
Escape
Saturday
- Relief
The
organizers, FOTAG committee members Mhairi and Heather Pattenden, say: “The art
of cellphone photography, otherwise known as phonography, has moved on from
just point and shoot to a more sophisticated art form and hobby. People now
tend to spend more time editing and “photo shopping” their images and it is
this new aspect that we focus on for the upcoming exhibition”.
The
photographs are on sale at R50 each and proceeds will go towards the
acquisition of new artworks for the Tatham Art Gallery.
FOTAG Pixhibition runs until May 12 at 17h00. The Tatham Art Gallery is situated opposite the Pietermaritzburg Town Hall in Chief Albert
Luthuli Street. More information from Education Officer Pinky Madlabane-Nkabinde on 033
