On May 14, Friends of Music will host a
recital by violinist Hrachya Avanesyan accompanied by Pieter Jacobs on the
piano.
Armenian born Hrachya Avanesyan is
considered one of the most inspiring artists of his generation. He plays on a Stradivarius “Piatti”. His
highlights have been appearances in David’s Hall, Cardiff with the BBC National
Orchestra of Wales, where he shared the stage with Joshua Bell and Maxim
Vengerov.
Pieter Jacobs (SA) has performed to acclaim
as soloist and chamber musician. Pieter has given solo recitals in major
centres in South Africa including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria.
The programme includes Schumann’s Sonata
no.1 in A minor; Debussy’s Sonata in G minor; De Falla/Kreisler’s Spanish Dance
from La Vida Breve; Saint Saens’ Cantabile
from Samson and Delila; Tchaikovsky/Auer‘s
Lensky Aria; Strauss’s Morgen and
Waxman’s Carmen Fantasy.
The evening’s Prelude Performers include
tenor Edward Phiri and soprano Zenith Madabla from The Opera School (OSCA) at
the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
The recital will take place on May 14 at
19h45 at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 Old Fort (K.E. Masinga) Road. Tickets:
