(Rodney
Branigan)
Bluestockings will present Nibs van der
Spuy and Rodney Branigan on May 11.
Nibs van der Spuy is a wanted man,
travelling the world to deliver the force of his gentle art. Now he’s on the
run again, with a new accomplice. Have you ever seen someone play two guitars
at the same time and not felt an overwhelming desire to slap them silly?
Not so with Texan born Rodney Branigan and
a close look at his youtube clips reveals a confounding that must be disproven
by a live show attendance. Is it a gimmick to get people to the show? One might
have thought so. Although, if you think we have good taste in music, then Nibs
can definitely teach you a few things, and this we have learned, when Nibs
brings out a fellow muso from distant shores, you pay attention, because it’s
more than likely going to be the acoustic event of the year!
Since his UK debut at Hampton Court Palace
in 2007, Rodney has graced the same stages as such British national treasures
as Billy Bragg and Jethro Tull, toured with double award winning Show of Hands and has been featured on
many stages at Glastonbury, recently performing with Seth Lakeman and Steve
Knightley. His fast expanding festival schedule has taken him from the Acoustic
Festival of Britain to headlining the Isle of Bute International Guitar
Festival in 2011.
The two met at in London in 2011 and have
spoken about a combined tour ever since. Nibs will be releasing his brand new
Anthology album, ‘Crossing Borders, Driving north’, while Branigan will be
gracing our shores with his outer worldly guitar prowess.
The performance takes place at
Bluestockings in Kloof on May 11 at 19h30. Entry R80pp (dinner R60pp by
pre-order only). Bookings essential on 083 659 3628 or email: narene@telkomsa.net. Bluestockings is
situated at Dan Pienaar Road, Kloof.
