The winter symphony season of the KZN
Philharmonic Orchestra starts in the Durban City Hall on May 16 and so do the
pre-concert lectures, which are aimed at increasing the listeners’ enjoyment of
the music to be played. They are informal, informative and humorous, with
excerpts from the music on the evening’s programme.
Supported by Friends of Music, the lectures
are given at 18h15 on concert nights in the Alhambra Room of the Playhouse,
Anton Lembede (Smith) Street, opposite the City Hall, and they end by 19h00, in
comfortable time to walk over to the concert.
The lecturers this season are: Ted Brien (May
16); Michael Green (May 23 and 30) and Dr Teddy Pillay (June 6). The admission
charge is R10.
The Fanatix Café in the Playhouse foyer is
now open on concert nights and members of the audience can have light
refreshments such as toasted sandwiches or more substantial meals such as roast
chicken, pasta or vegetarian options.
