Undergraduate Drama students from St Mary’s
University College, Twickenham, in the UK will once again visit South Africa to
understand and share ways in which drama techniques can be used by schools and
communities.
The Drama and Applied Theatre students will
take part in the 10-day trip, which will offer them the opportunity to work in
local schools, community centres, run workshops and tour with a forum theatre
performance. Their lecturer Mr Matthew Hahn believes that this trip to South
Africa is a great opportunity for the British students to reflect on how their
learning in a British University can be further influenced and challenged by
the active practice of working in Africa.
“I'm
sure that this year’s trip will prove to be just as successful as last year’s
trip to South Africa and the previous year’s trip (2011) to Malawi,” says Mr
Hahn. “For South African youth, it represents a great opportunity for cultural
exchange and creating meaningful relationships for the future, especially for
those wanting to take Drama as a career.”
