The Durban Art Gallery offers an Interactive
Course for those Involved in Facilitating Art Teaching.
The Art Teacher Training course, designed
and run by the Caversham Education Institute, will aim to equip participants
with basic skills in training and facilitating art teaching, particularly in
supporting arts and culture teachers in schools.
Extending the Durban Art Gallery’s
commitment to the development and implementation of accessible art education
and training, the six module course will run over two weeks, exploring
exciting, stimulating and innovative ways to use drawing, painting, collage,
printmaking and modelling to enhance the teaching of language, mathematics,
natural/ social sciences, technology and other learning areas.
Taking into account the economically
depressed contexts within which most art teacher work, the course will cover
the following areas: Curricular Development; Developing relevant activities for
target groups; Planning; Understanding Creativity as a tool across learning
programmes; Contextualising ideas, and Assessment and recording.
The course will be beneficial to art
teachers, including Early Childhood Development facilitators and those
passionate about and involved in facilitating art teaching, both formal and
informal. Participants will receive certificates
The course will take place in the Durban
Art Gallery from July 1 to 5 from 09h00 to 14h00 and entrance is free. More
