ART TEACHER TRAINING COURSE

The Durban Art Gallery offers an Interactive Course for those Involved in Facilitating Art Teaching.

The Art Teacher Training course, designed and run by the Caversham Education Institute, will aim to equip participants with basic skills in training and facilitating art teaching, particularly in supporting arts and culture teachers in schools.

Extending the Durban Art Gallery’s commitment to the development and implementation of accessible art education and training, the six module course will run over two weeks, exploring exciting, stimulating and innovative ways to use drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and modelling to enhance the teaching of language, mathematics, natural/ social sciences, technology and other learning areas.

Taking into account the economically depressed contexts within which most art teacher work, the course will cover the following areas: Curricular Development; Developing relevant activities for target groups; Planning; Understanding Creativity as a tool across learning programmes; Contextualising ideas, and Assessment and recording.

The course will be beneficial to art teachers, including Early Childhood Development facilitators and those passionate about and involved in facilitating art teaching, both formal and informal. Participants will receive certificates

The course will take place in the Durban Art Gallery from July 1 to 5 from 09h00 to 14h00 and entrance is free. More information or bookings through Witty Nyide on 031 311 2274. The Durban Art Gallery is situated on the 2nd floor of the Durban City Hall, entrance in Anton Lembede (Smith) Street.
