VIAD is a nationally esteemed Research Centre focusing on visual representations of identity as a specialised area of knowledge and expertise in art and design research. The Centre is committed to developing a body of knowledge in a number of forms (discursive writing, curatorial practice, creative production) around the thematic of visual identities.

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in, and knowledge of contemporary – and particularly South African − visual culture and proven project management skills. S/he should also demonstrate an understanding of both traditional academic research and practice-led research in relation to visual art and culture, design practices and curatorship in these fields. Such tasks require good organisational skills, excellent communication and inter-personal skills, a strong work ethic, the ability to work well under pressure, the ability to think both strategically and creatively, flexibility, and an independence which does not prevent working well with individuals or in a team.

Requirements: fluent English, knowledge of Microsoft Office, driver’s license and own car. Working knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign is an advantage.

Remuneration will be negotiated on an individual basis in accordance with the candidates’ experience, qualifications and working time agreed to.

Those interested should send a CV including names and contact details of three referees together with a letter of motivation to Leora Farber at email: leoraf@uj.ac.za or contact her on 011 559 1393.

Applications close on July 5, 2013.
