Not a “how to” book but rather one to used
to get basic ideas. (Review by Beverley Millar)
When I was first shown this book, my first
thought was “why?” Why would one need a book for something as basic as table
settings, but I changed my mind after reading it.
Easy
Table Settings for Every Occasion by Noeleen Foster,
Clare Huisamen and Ingrid Loud is an attractive book, easy to read and to page
through. It has many colourful illustrations and the text is straightforward. All
types of entertaining is covered from formal dinners to alfresco functions. There
are sections on engagement and graduation dinners, book club dinners, tea
parties, whisky and wine evenings, picnics, Mother’s and Father’s Day
celebrations and many more.
Also included are ideas and plans for parties
for children of all ages.
The introductory chapter lays out the basic
rules for entertaining and planning a function .It discusses organisation and
planning of an event as well as giving many hints, tips and check lists to
ensure that nothing is forgotten.
The book is also full of useful ideas and instructions
on how to make table decorations such as photo vases and centre pieces. There
are also clever ideas for using and recycling household items, such as
decorating empty tomato puree tins to make serviette rings. With everyone
trying to save money and protect the environment today, these are useful
suggestions. The book also suggests some very interesting gift ideas for your
guests.

Table Settings for Every Occasion is definitely not
a “how to” book with rigid lists and instructions on what to do. It is rather
to be used to browse through to get basic ideas and inspiration from the text
and pictures on how to personalize your own function.
There is a helpful list of suppliers at the
back of the book, but I was disappointed that except for the chain stores no
KZN suppliers were listed.
Easy
Table Settings for Every Occasion would make an
ideal gift for a kitchen tea/pamper party, or for anyone looking for new ideas
