At this year’s Steel Drum Foundation
competition, held at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre as part of the National
Creative Arts Youth Festival, a high standard was once again displayed from the
schools taking part.
Primary School winners were:
1st: Drum for Joy Trophy went to
Durban Primary
2nd: Troubadour Trophy went to
Kokstad Junior Grade 6
3rd: Trophy went to Brown School

High School winners were:
1st: Elizabeth Sneddon Trophy went
to Inanda 9B
2nd: Troubadour Trophy went to
Inanda 9L
The Steel Drum Foundation Trophy for the Most
Outstanding Single Performance by a Band went to Kokstad Junior Grade 6 for
their rendition of Quando Quando. The
Dobri Paliev Trophy for the best High School Individual Piece went to Sacred
Heart for their performance of You Raise
Me Up.
The artSMart Rising Star Trophy was awarded
to Karobelo Lefafa from Kokstad Junior 5. The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra Spirit
Trophy went to Hillcrest, which was the smallest group but took the initiative
of wearing costume pieces.
Judges were Caroline Smart and David
Gouldie.
