On
the occasion of Music Day (Fete De La Musique) in France, come and discover
this Zimbabwean quartet produced by French Label, Heavenly Sweetness Record.
Jacaranda Muse was formed at the beginning
of 2011 when four musicians with varying musical backgrounds sat down and
decided to come up with a new sound in Zimbabwe. The ensemble comprises a saxophonist,
a cellist, a pianist and a percussionist. With a healthy mix of Jazz and
Classical training, the ensemble composes and arranges music that touches on
elements and or themes from both these mainstream genres mixed in with a touch
of pop culture and African rhythms and sounds creates this mash of beautiful,
soulful and soothing music that touches the soul.
The idea behind Jacaranda Muse, both in
name and in practice, was to move away from playing a type of music that could
be labelled as either this or that. The idea was to just play music and appeal
to those that love music and care not for the labels that all too often
separate people and keep them from opening their minds and appreciating music
for what it really is: a healing power. The music of Jacaranda Muse is aimed at
creating a bridge that enables all to relate to music and in time to one another.
The versatility of the four musicians and
their open mindedness sees Jacaranda Muse drawing in people of varying ages,
races and genders. The ensemble makes every effort to explore various
experimental ways of playing each of their instruments and as such the music is
full of surprises.
Jacaranda Muse featured in the highly
acclaimed Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) in 2011 where they
presented two shows on the global stage and got positive reviews all round. The
group remains intact, seldom performing as most of the time is spent composing
new material. The goal is to always have something fresh and new at each
performance, supported by the old favourites.
The
ensemble comprises saxophonist Vimbai Mukarati, cellist Donald Chifamba, pianist
Filbert Marova and percussionist Tinashe Mukarati.
