At 14h30 today (Sunday June 23), Epworth
School Chapel Choir and the Pietermaritzburg Amateur Music Society as well as the
Pietermaritzburg City Orchestra conducted by Robin Walton and David Plank will
perform in the Epworth School Chapel.
The programme features the Mozart Requiem as well as the Beethoven Choral Fantasia (solo piano: Jacques
Heyns). Soloists will be soprano Linelle Wimbles; contralto; bass Andrew Butler
and tenor David Plank.
“This is
a wonderful inspiring work,” say the organisers. “As it is challenging for
choir, soloists and orchestra, it is seldom that there is an opportunity to
hear a live performance. Those who saw the film Amadeus may remember the thrilling soundtrack much of which came
from the Requiem. No recording can
compare with a live performance, however.
“Lovers
of classical music in Pietermaritzburg and the surrounding areas help us to
continue performing major works like this at the high standard for which we
strive. We are thrilled with the response to our annual performance of Messiah and hope that many of our
supporters will take this opportunity to hear another glorious inspiring work.
With no subsidy we need good audience support to be able to carry on the
tradition of fine choral music in Pietermaritzburg.”
Tickets R70 at the door. Epworth School
Chapel is situated at 95 Golf Road, Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg, and there is
ample secure parking. Further information on 033 347 0787.
