After an absence of virtually eight months,
the popular Night Market returns - this time to a brand new venue, the
Docklands Hotel at the Durban Waterfront on June 27.
This proactive initiative continues the
vision of Glenwood Community Forum member and market convenor, Darryl Hofmann,
to offer a series of inspired gourmet-events in interesting places. The Night
Market – which moves venue periodically – helps Durbanites to explore their
city. They will be hosting an open air, alfresco food and craft market as the
winter sun sets.
Darryl Hofmann and his Whole Food Team are
delighted to be returning to the Point once more, to one of Durban’s iconic
spaces – the charming, eclectic Docklands Hotel in the heart of the Waterfront.
The market has taken place at Colombo Tea
and Coffee in Umgeni Road; the green hub; the majestic Quays Development at the
Point; the quaint Oldham Road juncture in Stamford Hill, and now Docklands
Hotel.
With the beautiful crisp winter evenings,
the decision was to take the market outdoors for a while to star gaze while
browsing! The idea is to contain the market in the Docklands Hotel’s charming
courtyard. Hofmann has carefully chosen stallholders which will create a
deli-vibe – allowing visitors to purchase produce from the stalls, and assemble
a meal, picnic style. The intended vendor mix includes organic meats; honey;
pizzas; falafels; artisan breads; farm cheese and coffees.
There will also be art, craft, jewellery,
gift ideas and decor items – all sourced and produced locally.
The Docklands restaurant will also be open
for dinner, should browsers prefer a more formal supper and a fine dining
experience in the award-winning restaurant WODKA, serving a fusion of
intercontinental cuisines in a New York-style bistro setting.
The Night Market takes place on June 27 from
17h00 to 22h00 at Docklands, corner of Mahatma Gandhi and Browns Avenue. There
is ample parking with additional security personnel on duty employed by the
Market.
